We use MAY, MIGHT or COULD when we think that something is possible.
Example: I don’t know the time, but it might be late.
We could try to open it. We may open it.
We use CAN’T when we think that something is impossible.
Example: You can’t be my brother. I am the only child in my family.

PAST SIMPLE
PAST SIMPLE is used when talking about a situation which took place in the past, obviously, and which is finished.
There are two types of verbs:
REGULAR VERBS: To change them into the past, we just add -ED at their end.
Example: We talked about it yesterday.
IRREGULAR VERBS: They change into another form.
Example: I thought that you knew it.
Before we continue, you should look at this list of irregular verbs to learn at least the most important ones.
